PROFILE: Highline Public Schools' Business Services department is seeking a Budget Analyst to join the budget strategy team and support responsible fiscal stewardship of the portfolio of Grants and Associated Student Body (ASB) funds in alignment with Board Policy (i.e., Policy 6000: Financial Management for Equity). The Budget Analyst with this portfolio will oversee grant-related financial activity, ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal regulations. Key responsibilities include preparing and reporting Highline’s Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA), processing monthly grant claims, developing grant budgets, and maintaining compliance with grant awards. This role also provides guidance on grant expenditures to ensure funds are used effectively, problem-solving as needed. A key focus of this role is budget development and financial planning, including preparing year-end projections for grants to ensure accurate reporting and alignment of funds. The Budget Analyst will analyze spending trends, anticipate potential budgetary risks, and collaborate with stakeholders to support effective financial decision-making as related to this portfolio. In addition to grants, the Budget Analyst will support Associated Student Body (ASB) financial oversight from the systems-level, working with school and district staff to ensure compliance with financial policies and best practices for ASB. The ideal candidate has budget and accounting experience—preferably in a PK-12 public school setting—is highly detail-oriented, analytical, and has strong technical skills in Microsoft Excel. This position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, track financial deadlines, and collaborate across programmatic, budget, and accounting teams. Strong communication skills are essential for partnering with grant and project leads to support strategic resource planning and financial decision-making. The Budget Analyst plays a key role in promoting equitable and sustainable resource management that enhances financial transparency and positively impacts student experiences in Highline Public Schools.
SUMMARY: This is a professional position in the Business Services Department of Highline Public Schools that works in collaboration with assigned portfolio of programs in support of districtwide resource alignment practices. This position researches, analyzes, and advises district leadership in making staffing and budget decisions to achieve the Highline Promise. The Budget Analyst is designed to be flexible in terms of application of knowledge and skills to a portfolio of programs. Accordingly, the Budget Analyst portfolio may include: basic education (BEA), categorical programs and grants, Career and Technical Education (CTE) and skills center programs, alternative learning education (ALE) programs, Special Education, facilities and maintenance, transportation, Associated Student Body (ASB) programs, and central office programs and budgets.
