What are the responsibilities and job description for the TEACHER SECONDARY (GENERAL) position at Highline Public Schools?

- Curriculum Writers – Teachers will develop Project-Based Learning experiences related to district standards with a focus on transferrable and real-world skill development.
- Coaches – Teachers will guide students through student-centered learning, connected directly to students’ strengths, interests, and post-secondary goals.
- Collaborators – Teachers will co-design and co-teach lessons in cross-curricular teams, centering learning around a common theme or community-based topic.
- Case Managers – Teachers will manage Individualized Student Learning Plans to ensure that the student learning experience is meaningful, robust, and tied directly to the student’s post-secondary goals.
- Interventionists – Teachers will design and facilitate tiered re-engagement workshops to support student’s success in their attendance, academics, and behavior. We hope to take a restorative approach to our interventions and support systems.
- Community Liaisons – Educators will build deep and meaningful connections with community partners,
- mentors, and families in support of student’s success within the instructional program and in preparation for post-secondary goals.
- Mentors – Educators will build strong relationships with students, leveraging their name, strengths, and needs to create strong connections throughout our school community.
- Wellness Advocates – Educators will facilitate daily wellness workshops to ensure that students practice the habits of life balance, developing strategies for personal, mental, physical, and emotional wellness.
- This position will focus primarily on helping students build Independent PBL Projects based on the IHA competency model. Class compositions will primarily be made of seniors who are approaching graduation who need specific competencies (credit equivalencies) in order to graduate. The teacher must have an ability to balance a flexible approach based on students’ goals, skills, and interest and the intentional structure necessary to create individual projects. Experience with Project Based Learning is highly valuable for this position.
- A secondary focus will be to create learning experiences for students to demonstrate skills acquired throughout their high school experience through a community-based experience. This class will be closely tied to students’ High School and Beyond Plans where they will create a pathway towards their future ready goal.
- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Current Washington State Teacher’s certificate with appropriate subject area endorsement(s).
- ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Criminal background clearance and all certificates, licenses, endorsements, permits, and vaccines (absent exemption) as required for this position by state and local authorities.
