Summary:
The Tax Analyst role provides support to the Tax Director with respect to sales tax accounting, use tax accounting, sales tax compliance requirements, lubricating oil excise tax compliance requirements, property tax, and ongoing special projects.
This is a professional role, and the ideal candidate must possess the ability to work in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment with minimal supervision. Organizational and effective communication skills are a must.
Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of the Tax Director, prepares various tax returns, including sales tax, use tax, lubricating excise tax, property tax, and gross receipts tax
- Processes tax payments via accounts payable, state websites, and other electronic and paper check methods
- Researches, analyzes, and communicates to Tax Director status of nexus with existing and potential jurisdictions
- Maintains and reconciles tax account balances and prepare monthly reports
- Resolves sales and use tax notices through written and oral communication
- Works with accounting and other staff to determine optimal method(s) for measuring and monitoring use taxes
- Provides sales & use tax support to sales/customer support team and procurement teams
- Ensures requests for resale certificates are fulfilled for customers and vendors
- Assists Tax Director with tax audits as needed
- Works with legal and regulatory departments and various company locations to ensure that all necessary licensing and permits are obtained and current
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or business
- Previous accounting and multistate sales & use tax, property tax, or other related tax experience (at least 1-3 years) required
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with an eye for detail
- Proficient in sales tax software
- Working knowledge of Vertex software or other similar sales and use tax software preferred
- Experience with software implantation projects a plus
- Experience with a national manufacturing and/or distribution company
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
