Summary:
The Senior Commercial Banker is responsible for ensuring business growth in assigned markets. This sales-oriented position involves the proficient administration of all procedures necessary to make commercial loans and obtain deposit relationships. This includes attracting borrowers, evaluating applications and financial data, reviewing loan documents, and closing or paying out the proceeds of the loan. The role also involves active participation in community organizations and activities, promoting the bank’s products and services, and upholding the bank’s public image. Ensures exceptional customer service is provided to our customers. As a member of the Management Team, plays an active role in the development of strategic market positioning and the success of market goals.
Principal Responsibilities:
Loan and Deposit Growth:
- Meet established loan and deposit growth and performance objectives for the assigned market.
- Work directly with the Cash Management Officer and Branch Manager(s) to obtain deposit relationships with new and existing customers.
Business Development:
- Develop and investigate loan and deposit gathering opportunities.
- Attract borrowers, increase the loan portfolio, and build banking relationships.
- Participate in the Officer Calling Program.
- Engage in community organizations and activities to cultivate business relationships and promote the bank’s image and services/products.
Loan Application & Structure:
- Interview loan applicants and collect and analyze financial and related data to determine creditworthiness.
- Recommend and negotiate loan terms, including costs, repayment methods, and collateral requirements.
- Ensure loans to existing and new customers are profitable and well-structured.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Gain familiarity with the full line of bank products to develop and maintain relationship banking ties with borrowers and depositors.
Compliance and Monitoring:
- Comply with government lending laws/regulations and the bank’s loan policies and procedures.
- Monitor the existing loan portfolio, maintain contact with customers, and ensure conformity with loan terms.
- Keep advised on technical and documentary exceptions and maintain current financial information and balances on customers with board-established lines of credit.
- Monitor loan repayment activities and take necessary action to collect from past due accounts.
Reporting and Asset Protection:
- Prepare and maintain various reports required by management and/or other regulators in a timely and accurate manner.
- Protect the bank’s assets through adherence to overall bank policies.
- Perform additional assignments as directed.
Requirements:
- 5 years of commercial lending and business development experience, with a preference for existing experience within the service area
- Credit training
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related area
- Demonstrated ability to generate new loan growth
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate or influence internal or external senior level professionals is a critical part of the job, requiring a significant level of influence and trust. Obtaining cooperation and agreement on important outcomes via frequently complex, senior level dialogues, as well as a professional level of written communication skills are essential to the position.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in establishing and maintaining working relationships, solve problems, and deliver a high level of accuracy, focus, and timeliness with limited supervision
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, contracts, credit and financial documents, as well as other legal documents as needed
- Ability to present, sell, and service bank products and demonstrate professional knowledge of commercial lending
- Strong analytical and mathematical capabilities, as well as an understanding of credit underwriting and loan documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Programs/Products
