The RN-Surgery/OR provides direct patient care in the surgical setting by utilizing nursing processes and adhering to established practices. Responsibilities include scrubbing for procedures, ensuring the proper sterilization of instruments, and coordinating patient education and care alongside other healthcare professionals. Description:Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Responsible for selecting, preparing, and placing instruments and supplies in a specified order. Scrubbing for procedures as a scrub nurse/scrub tech/assistant. Identifies, disassembles, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and processes all reusable supplies and patient care equipment used in the hospital.
Reports to: Director Surgical Services
Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
Documents patient care given.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Practices strict adherence to sterile technique and equipment instructions to avoid infection of patient and self-contamination of equipment and supplies.
May assist with Pre-Admission Testing, Interventional Radiology Nursing Care, and Cardiographics as needed with competency completion.
Qualifications:Minimum Education:
Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree, or RN Diploma required.
Required Skills:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required Certifications:
American Heart Association or American Red Cross Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire or must be obtained within 90 days of employment, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 12 months of employment Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) required within 12 months of employment Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) preferred
Minimum Work Experience:
One to two years OR experience preferred; on-call will be required.
Required Licenses:
Registered Nurse Current TN or Multi-State RN licensure
