Job Summary
The Product Support Representative promotes parts sales, not normally captured by Highway Equipment & Supply Co., to customers within an assigned territory, meeting all sales goals, making 8-to-12 sales calls per day, establishing new accounts, and servicing existing accounts.
Essential Functions
1. Promote parts sales, not normally captured by Highway Equipment & Supply Co., to customers within the following area of prime responsibility (APR), which gives exclusive sales rights on product support business places in this APR. Highway reserves the right to waive the protected APR if the Product Sales Representative has not contacted a buyer within 90 days prior to the sale
3. Establish new accounts. Develop new customers through cold calling by phone and on job sites and business locations, curate leads on new customers through industry news and contacts
4. Develop business plans for each customer and achieving ongoing excellent customer relations
5. Maintains compliance with the completion of all company-required information and records, such as call reports, market surveys, customer satisfaction reports, and customer machine ownership lists (by make, model, serial number, and hours of use)
6. It is not the primary purpose of the Product Support Representative to deliver parts. When deliveries are necessary, it is important to make them promptly
7. Maintain a professional and business-like appearance for vehicle and self, including keeping vehicle maintenance up-to-date
8. Must be able to load and unload equipment, when and if necessary
Competencies
1. Proficient with Microsoft systems and applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
2. Heavy-equipment industry knowledge and experience preferred
3. Motivated, passionate, self-starter driven to meet sales goals and deadlines. Flexibility to work non-business hours
4. Professional phone, email, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
5. Works well in a fast-paced, demanding team environment, with all levels of the company, and with all types of customers
6. Able to work independently with a strict attention to detail, exerts sound judgment, discretion, and preserves confidentiality
Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or GED
2. One-to-two years sales experience
3. Class C (passenger vehicle) driver’s license with a clean driving record
4. If selected, must pass a pre-employment drug test and physical examination at Highway’s expense to determine if the candidate is physically fit to perform the duties without injuring themselves or others.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
As this is an exempt salaried sales position, the Product Sales Representative is expected to work at a minimum Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with willingness to work as needed beyond normal business hours to make sales goals.
Travel: Primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected. Generally, maintaining the APR requires up to 90-percent local travel and 10% annual out of state travel.
