What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prep Tech position at Highway Transport?
Operate a yard tractor to position trailers in the shop and in parking lot. The Prep Tech is required to inspect all valves, interior of the trailer and capabilities of removing and rebuilding chemical trailer valves and vents. The Prep Tech is expected to follow prepping procedures to ensure equipment reliability. Tools are required for this position.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Pressure testing and vacuum testing valves.
- Replace gaskets on specific components (dome lid, clean out cap gaskets, QRB gaskets, and heat system inspections).
- Inspect inside of tanks for residue and stains.
- Operate a yard tractor to position equipment
- Complies with all HTC Safety, Health, Environmental and Security Policy and Programs.
- Complies will all Department of Transportation regulations.
- Complies with all applicable OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Complies with all applicable state and local environmental regulations.
Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:
- Mechanical/technical training work-related experience a plus.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Required to possess necessary tooling to perform assigned duties:
- Sockets/wrenches 1.25” and lower
- Air tools 1/2” drive and lower
- Acceptable tool chest to store personal tools
Skills Required:
- Ability to read, write, and speak English is required.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
- Good verbal/written communication skills.
- Must be mechanically inclined.
- Ability to utilize HTC computer software system.
- Ability to learn and operate a yard spotter to move equipment in and out of the facility and on the yard.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
The following physical abilities, environments and equipment may be met during a typical working day:
- Normal environment is outdoors.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Pushing pulling up to 50 to 100 lbs.
- Confined space entry is required.
- Must wear proper PPE.
- Exposed to temperature extremes while working under roof. Must wear appropriate safety gear and PPE
- Ability to climb trailer ladder.
- Able to wear fall protection equipment.
- Work on high platforms.
- Lift at least 75 lbs. as needed
- Stand more than 95% of the work day
