Position Summary:
Successful Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing new furniture and spa products, with an eye toward ease of manufacturing, ease of assembly, product durability/performance, and overall cost. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be involved with all aspects of product development through manufacturing. The role requires exploring and researching fasteners, adhesives, tooling, and other components and aspects of design to ensure the optimal balance of performance and cost. Additionally, support of and guidance to the manufacturing team when rolling out new products and/or improving existing processes is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
· Design, develop, and build outdoor furniture and spa products.
· Design of the mechanical aspects of outdoor furniture and spa cabinets.
· Develop 3D CAD (AutoCAD/Inventor) models of designs.
· Build prototypes of all new designs, and test these for efficacy.
· Design and build furniture assembly fixtures.
· Develop CNC programs for furniture components.
· Creates all technical drawings and documents associated with new products, product modifications, tooling/fixturing, or manufacturing equipment.
· Develop product documentation, Bill of Materials, and specifications.
· Provide customers with conceptual drawings and solid models.
· Evaluate and make engineering recommendations for new production capital equipment.
· Support new products from design stage through manufacturing ramp up.
· Provide training as needed to technicians and manufacturing personnel.
· Provide engineering support to production team for existing products.
· Participate in cost and waste reduction efforts including product / process improvements.
· Interface with customers to provide design engineering support for new products.
· Interface with vendors for new designs or issue resolution with existing designs.

Education and/or Experience
Minimum of a BS in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 3 years of design experience.
Minimum 3 years - Experience with 3D CAD/solid design (AutoCad Inventor, Solid Works or Pro Engineer) required.
Experience with manufacturing processes including CNC routing, profile extrusion, fabrication and assembly is a plus. The ideal candidate will be familiar with woodworking, plastics, and furniture elements.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud and PPE is required. Appropriate hearing protection while in the plant is required as noise levels within the facility meet OSHA requirements for hearing protection equipment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Mechanical Design Engineers typically work between an office environment and the production floor but the purpose of the project may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
