Field Service Rotator
Summary
This role involves executing fundamental maintenance tasks, procedures, and responsibilities associated with gas compression packages under direct oversight. The technician will support senior team members in servicing, troubleshooting, installing, and commissioning gas-fired and electrically driven compressor systems. The primary objective at this level is to develop proficiency in maintenance activities under supervision, paving the way for advancement to a higher technician level.
Responsibilities
- Represent the company professionally while delivering top-tier customer service aligned with corporate values.
- Accurately complete and submit field service reports, expense records, timesheets, and required documentation daily.
- Assist in diagnosing engine and compressor issues efficiently and accurately.
- Support the rebuilding and overhauling of compressors, engines, and control systems in the field, even in challenging conditions.
- Provide assistance in addressing recurring technical issues and responding to emergency service needs.
- Aid in the installation and commissioning of new equipment, ensuring proper startup procedures.
- Perform mechanical inspections using specialized tools, such as micrometers, pressure gauges, and electronic diagnostic devices.
- Be prepared for extensive travel on short notice, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to handle emergency repairs effectively.
- Offer feedback to supervisors regarding personnel and material needs for efficient job planning.
- Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental policies applicable to the role.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; vocational or technical training is a plus.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- Certifications from CAT/Waukesha or equivalent, including:
- CAT Gas I
- CAT Gas II
- CAT Electrical
- Ariel Basic
- Ariel Mechanical
- Waukesha GET
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings, including drug tests, background checks, and physical assessments.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong mechanical and electrical skills with experience in complex service and maintenance tasks.
- Owns necessary trade tools (excluding specialized OEM diagnostic equipment).
- Ability to operate diagnostic software such as CAT ET and related OEM programs.
- Understanding of compressor performance evaluation and horsepower calculations.
- Familiarity with CAT Gas Engine Rating Pro (GERP).
- Ability to conduct preventative maintenance and minor repairs independently.
- Knowledge of proper purging and loading practices.
- Capable of identifying and preventing unsafe work conditions.
- Willingness to learn through hands-on experience and training.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Basic understanding of gas and oil properties, equipment operation, and industry theories.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, blueprints, installation guides, and technical manuals.
Physical Requirements
- Must frequently stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Regularly required to lift/move up to 25 lbs; occasionally up to 50 lbs using proper techniques.
