The Role: The Member Services Associate plays a key role on our Member Services team, serving as a primary point of contact for members and providers. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional service by answering inquiries related to benefits, eligibility, and enrollment through phone, email, and in-person interactions. Additionally, the role supports the team with administrative tasks, including data entry and claims process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as a helpful and knowledgeable point of contact for members and retirees, responding to benefit-related questions via phone, email, and in-person.
- Delivers accurate and timely information while answering questions and resolving member concerns with professionalism and empathy.
- Acts as a liaison between members and external vendors—medical, pharmacy, vision, dental, audiology, and EAP providers—to resolve issues and coordinate care.
- Maintains detailed electronic records of member interactions in the Bridgeway Benefit Technologies/ISSI platform to ensure consistent and quality service.
- Stays up to date on benefits and regulatory changes, adjusting practices as needed to remain compliant and effective.
- Accurately process enrollments and terminations based upon established eligibility guidelines.
- Prepares and sends communications to members, including reinstatement notices and eligibility updates.
- Generates third-party correspondence, collaborate with attorneys and other organizations on subrogation cases and manage lien repayment follow-up.
- Processes disability and life insurance claims in alignment with TeamstersCare benefit guidelines and procedures.
- Assists and advises retired members who qualify for enrollment in Retiree Programs.
- Manages COBRA, retiree, and buy-up payments, including follow-up on delinquent accounts.
- Follows up with members who experience a change in family status, ensuring required documentation is complete and only eligible dependents are enrolled.
- Verifies eligibility through recertification processes and follows up with members when needed.
- Collaborates with members who need to repay disability claim overpayments or claims incurred by an ineligible dependent.
- Prepares documents, including letters, checks, claim forms, updates, enrollment and termination packages, and provides them to members, retirees, and/or dependents.
- Over time, takes on a leadership role by mentoring/training colleagues, assisting with task planning, and suggesting service improvements.
- Partners with the Member Services Manager to streamline processes and enhance the overall member experience.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2-5 five years in health care, customer service and/or benefits administration experience is preferred.
- Experience with COBRA, subrogation and disability overpayment is preferred but not required
- Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and active listening
- Service-oriented and able to resolve member concerns
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite and overall computer skills with the ability to learn new software
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively
- Self-motivation and initiative
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and decision making
- Ability to learn and apply TeamstersCare plan rules and guidelines
- Follows established procedures, policies and precedents
- Ability to work under general supervision
- Demonstrates confidentiality and discretion
Benefits/ Perks:
- $26.50 per hour
