Overview:
The Tank Trailer Mechanic /Tanker Inspector will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and inspection of tanker trailers, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This role includes conducting VK and IP inspections on MC331 and DOT407 tanker trailers. Hilco will assist with the transfer of certification as needed.
Job Duties:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on tanker trailers.
- Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot issues on cargo tankers.
- Conduct VK and IP inspections on MC331 tankers.
- Perform safety inspections and prepare documentation per FMCSA, company, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
- Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems on Code-spec cargo tanks (MC331 & DOT407).
- Test and verify repairs to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Work in confined spaces, including entry through an 18” manway.
- Interpret work orders and technical manuals for proper repair procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with OSHA and company standards.
- Utilize electronic diagnostic tools to assess failure modes and assign repairs.
- Follow all company and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
Schedule:
- Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of tools and equipment used for tanker trailer repair and maintenance.
- Experience with VK and IP inspections on MC331 tankers.
- Ability to perform confined space entry and related safety procedures.
- Must have own tools.
- Computer skills for documentation and diagnostics.
- Ability to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Physical ability to perform tasks including walking, lifting, twisting, turning, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- 3-5 years of trailer mechanic experience preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to work in confined space.
