The purpose of this job is to understand and optimize the properties of a wide range of flooring materials, including both PVC and non-PVC options, with an emphasis on sustainability and the use of recycled content. These materials may be associated with existing products, competitive products, or new product developments. The role will focus on understanding material performance, cost implications, and enhancing the sustainability and environmental impact of flooring materials. This person will also be expected to drive and/or support the development and application of new material technologies, both in PVC and non-PVC domains.
This is a multifunctional Process Engineer role within the Research and Development group. A large portion of this job will involve plant trials, materials testing, and associated lab work, focusing on both PVC and non-PVC flooring materials. The position will require travel to locations with the necessary analytical capabilities and where materials are utilized (the plants). Effectively managing and communicating data and test results is crucial to this role.
Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a similar specialization.
- Experience: Minimum of five years of experience directly related to working with flooring materials, including both PVC and non-PVC options, with a strong focus on sustainability and materials with recycled content.
- Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of flooring manufacturing processes, including sustainable practices such as recycling, waste reduction, and the use of eco-friendly materials. Proficiency in processes such as coating, calendaring, cutting, laminating, printing, and extrusion, with a focus on both PVC and non-PVC materials.
- Sustainability Focus: Strong understanding of sustainable material technologies, lifecycle analysis, and environmental impact assessments.
- Interpersonal Skills: Must develop strong working relationships with associates in production, as their role is to put scientific principles into practice in manufacturing industries.
