Hill Country Allergy & Asthma has four locations in Lakeway, Marble Falls, Dripping Springs and Leander
***This position will be based out of our Lakeway location. All training does take place in our Lakeway office but may have some exceptions at other locations. ***
The Infusion Nurse, or IV Nurse, works as part of the healthcare team to administer various forms of IV therapy to patients. Their duties include assessing patients to develop care plans, inserting various types of intravenous lines and monitoring the IV treatments to watch for complications.
Infusion Nurse duties and responsibilities
· Patient assessment: Conduct thorough patient assessments to identify needs, medical history, and potential risks related to IV therapy.
· IV access establishment: Skillfully insert various types of IV catheters and access devices to ensure proper medication delivery.
· Medication administration: Accurately prepare and administer IV medications, including antibiotics, and other specialized infusions, following physician orders.
· Infusion monitoring: Continuously monitor patients during infusions, observing vital signs, infusion rates, and potential complications like allergic reactions, phlebitis, or extravasation.
· Complications management: Respond promptly to any complications during infusion therapy, taking necessary actions to address issues like fluid overload, infection, or adverse drug reactions.
· Patient education: Provide clear instructions to patients regarding their infusion therapy, including potential side effects and self-care measures.
· Documentation: Maintain detailed records of patient assessments, medication administration, infusion rates, and any complications encountered.
Required skills and knowledge:
- Expert venipuncture skills: Proficiency in accessing veins for IV placement
- Knowledge of IV medications and fluids: Understanding the properties, potential side effects, and compatibility of different IV medications and solutions
- Infection control practices: Adherence to strict infection control guidelines to prevent complications
- Acute care monitoring: Ability to closely monitor patients for changes in vital signs and potential complications
- Critical thinking and decision-making: Ability to assess situations quickly and make appropriate interventions when necessary
What You Will Need Licensure / Certification / Registration: BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing required. Education: Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
