Purpose: To help fulfill the mission of the school to provide a college preparatory education by providing a classical Christian educational environment, subject matter mastery, excellent classroom management, and godly interaction with students and peers that promotes an environment where all students can attain academic excellence and spiritual maturity.

Accountability: Reports to the lower school principal.

Education: A bachelor’s degree is required; experience in library science and two years of classroom experience are preferred.

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time

Start Date: August 2025

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.
  • Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs agree with this school's Statement of Faith.
  • Must possess sufficient biblical knowledge that enables the librarian to integrate Scripture into subjects taught, thus imparting to the students a biblical worldview.
  • Must understand and support the principles of classical education.
  • Must be proficient in computer and technology applications necessary for the teaching profession and stay abreast of changes in technology to implement as needed.
  • Must have good communication skills and exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

General Responsibilities:

  • Establish and promote Christian standards and expectations for all students and peer staff to encourage excellent academic performance and godly character.
  • Conduct oneself with Christ-like behavior and decorum consistent with a professional school environment in all interactions with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure content collection evolves and expands to curriculum needs. Removes obsolescent material as needed.
  • Catalog, classify, and maintain databases and/or electronic media to properly place them in the library system.
  • Possess knowledge of the Dewey decimal system to organize library material.
  • Work with supervisor to ensure LMC operations are maintained within budget.
  • Review existing books to ensure the current collection is aligned with the school's mission.
  • Organize and chair a committee of parents to help review current books and investigate new books to be added.
  • Research and summarizes topics to provide information to library users.
  • Offer courteous assistance to students and library patrons
  • Explain and demonstrate the use of reference resources to show procedures for using library materials.
  • Assist students with selections appropriate to individual reading levels and interests.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to meet the needs of individual readers.
  • Promote library and events through various media resources.
  • Incorporate programs to encourage students to read recreationally and recognize their efforts. Coordinates incentive programs to promote reading.
  • Review books and periodicals to determine which donated books will be retained and integrated into the library system.
  • Inventory library materials to ascertain the loss of materials assigned to the library and all printed or electronic materials yearly.
  • Train and oversee the library assistant and volunteers in all library procedures, and encourage and provide appropriate feedback to ensure success.
  • Maintain good classroom management by providing an orderly and structured academic environment conducive for all students to achieve their potential.
  • Ensure a safe, orderly educational environment that encourages students to take responsibility for Christ-like behavior. Actively participates in a redemptive student discipline process. Involves teacher and parents as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation regarding significant discipline issues.
  • Provide timely and active participation in all staff and/or department meetings.
  • Communicates regularly with parents, seeking their support and input.
  • Avoid as much as practicable “one-on-one” discussions with students in closed rooms with no other students or staff present to protect the interests of the student, the teacher, and the school.
  • Notify the head of school, principal, and nurse immediately and any appropriate agencies when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse/neglect, severe medical conditions, potential suicide or students appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
  • Notify appropriate management personnel immediately of any behavior that is a physical risk to other faculty, administration, or students or could damage the school's reputation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move about inside and outside of campus buildings.
  • Must work in a stationary position using fine motor skills.
  • Frequently communicate with co-workers, students, parents, and others. Must be able to exchange accurate and professional information in person, via email, or by telephone.
  • Possess the physical stamina required to fulfill the professional obligations of the teaching profession and their specific faculty assignment.
  • Able to lift 5 to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be flexible and adapt to various classroom settings and learning styles, schedules, and changes.
  • Possible exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
