POSITION SUMMARY: 

Hill Country Community Clinic is seeking an experienced and dynamic Dental Director to lead our dental program and ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered oral health services in a community clinic setting at our Round Mountain and Redding locations. As a key member of the leadership team, the Dental Director will oversee clinical operations, ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and provide strategic direction for the dental program aligned with Hill Country’s mission. This position requires a commitment to serving underserved populations and advancing health equity in our community.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Other duties may be assigned which may become essential to the position. 

 

  1. Provide direct patient care while modeling clinical excellence and evidence-based practices.
  2. Diagnoses dental condition, evaluates oral health, plans and provides treatment. Services include: oral examinations, prophylaxis, fillings, extractions, periodontal surgery, root canals, crowns and bridges; takes and interprets radiographs; performs follow-up services.
  3. Lead the development and implementation of clinical protocols, quality assurance programs, and performance improvement initiatives.
  4. Consults with managers, executives, and employees to identify problems, develop improvements, create and maintain quality standards.
  5. Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, including Medi-Cal, OSHA, HRSA, and other relevant guidelines.
  6. Oversee infection control and ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
  7. Monitors system performance to ensure proper operation and identify possible problem areas.
  8. Identifies problems or potential problem areas and recommends solutions.
  9. Reviews, investigates, documents and processes clinical grievances, complaints, and/or implements disciplinary actions.
  10. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
  11. Conducts conferences with defendants and/or attorneys, negotiate settlements, and testify in court.
  12. Supervises subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
  13. Analyze and report key performance metrics, such as patient outcomes and operational efficiency; reports findings, interprets results and/or makes recommendations.
  14. Prepare and/or process documents; review for accuracy and completeness; update information and/or evaluate against policy; compare elements for consistency or logical relationships, etc.
  15. Writes, implements, and provides documentation of individual client's treatment; maintains records to comply with federal requirements and writes reports indicative of progress or regression.
  16. Foster partnerships with community organizations, schools, and stakeholders to promote oral health education and outreach.
  17. Represent the dental program at community events, meetings, and advocacy efforts.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly and indirectly supervise employees in the Dental department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Experience working with HRSA-funded programs or managing grant-funded services preferred.

 

Education/Experience:

Current licensure as a Dentist in the State of California.  Must have excellent working knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, principles, theories, techniques and practices of dentistry.  Must have ability to perform all necessary duties involved in dental hygienist protocol and procedures; as well as those of dental assistant. Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in general dentistry, preferably in a community health setting. Previous leadership or administrative experience required; FQHC or public health experience strongly preferred. Experience with Medi-Cal Dental and other public insurance programs.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

Current licensure as a Dentist in the State of California.  Current CPR Certification

 

Language Ability:

Must have highest level language skills.  Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.  Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.  Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.  Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, attorneys, judges, and/or boards of directors.

 

Math Ability:

Must have intermediate math skills.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Must have very high reasoning skills.  Ability to independently assess the nature and extent of dental, periodontic, and associated conditions and pathology, and formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions. 

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite.  Must have knowledge of medical management software such as Athena Practice.

 

Equipment Skills:

Working knowledge of all standard dental equipment necessary to perform duties.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is an indoor business and dental office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with normal dental equipment noises and business office noises, computers, printers and phones. While performing the duties of this job, employee may frequently be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and work near moving mechanical parts; occasionally be exposed to risks of radiation via x-rays, electrical shock and vibration, and chemicals.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  Employee is frequently required to stand, sit and walk.  Employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch, and smell.  Employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Employee must utilize close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 


Salary : $175,000 - $195,000
