Our Need:
Hill Country Community Clinics urgent mental health resource center, known as the CARE Center, and Mobile Crisis Outreach Team are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced therapists (LCSW/LMFT) with availability to fill-in when our regularly scheduled therapists go on vacation or are off work due to sickness. This is a perfect job for retired therapists who want to continue to work a few days or weeks a month. It is also a great option for part-time therapists in the community who want to diversify their work while adding a few more days to their monthly schedule. Presently, our need for coverage averages 3 to 7 days a month. We could potentially offer 1 or 2 consistent days (10 to 20 hours) a week, with a minimum commitment of 4 flexible, on call days a month.
Program Description:
The CARE Center and the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team in downtown Redding are open 365 days a year, including holidays. The CARE Center, is open from 12pm to 9pm and our Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT) operates from 8:30am to 7:30pm. We provide prompt, professional and compassionate interventions to persons who are experiencing a mental health crisis and/or other life challenges. Services are provided by therapist and case manager teams and include safety and crisis evaluations, including potential 5150 holds, level of care and general needs assessments, stabilizing interventions, immediate linkage to resources, and quick access to follow up care. We also provide short-term therapy at the CARE Center for persons waiting to get an appointment with a community therapist or who need access to other specialty programs. We often transport people to obtain needed care or services and make follow up contact to aid with further stabilization assistance and resources, when needed. When not responding to an urgent mental health concern, we reach out to persons known to be having difficulties with mental illness or addiction, and others who may lack housing or be experiencing other significant life challenges. Our staff work together to improve the quality and timeliness of care, support, and resources that people receive during such times and strive to prevent unnecessary and costly emergency room visits and arrests. MCOT assists law enforcement officers and other emergency personnel when 911 calls are received involving mental health concerns. We also respond to calls for help from other agencies, community organizations, concerned family members, and the community more broadly. We are trauma-sensitive, recovery-oriented, and research-informed. Since 2016, these programs have had significant impact in our local communities, both through direct, intensive work with individuals and families experiencing a crisis and through improving our local continuum of care.

In addition to having exceptional clinical assessment skills, de-escalation skills, and knowledge of community resources, the ideal candidates’ past professional experience will reflect warmth, ingenuity, integrity, leadership, resilience, flexibility and, most of all, deep satisfaction helping people with complicated life problems. A sense of humor is a must, as are strong ethical reasoning and excellent oral and written communication skills. This position will involve working as a team and directly with leaders in public mental health, law enforcement, emergency departments, and other community agencies.
