The EMS Mental Health Specialist is a highly responsible service position which will work in partnership with and be
housed with the Blanco County Fire & EMS. The EMS Mental Health Specialist will perform crisis assessments in the
field for adults and children as mental health calls or referrals are received. The delivery of services will be based on
the needs of the community and individuals experiencing a psychiatric emergency. The EMS Mental Health Specialist
is responsible for assessing individuals in crisis situations, developing individualized crisis treatment plans including
in-patient hospitalization referrals as needed, connecting to routine care as needed, and providing crisis follow up
contacts. The EMS Mental Health Specialist will also assess specific needs to be able to develop and implement
Person Centered Recovery plans that support individuals with mental illness in learning skills to reach their specified
service outcomes and to attain/maintain individual recovery. EMS Mental Health Specialist must provide timely and
accurate documentation which supports diagnosis and outcome-based services. This position collaborates with intra and
inter-agency staff to improve services for the community. The EMS Mental Health Specialist exercises extensive
independent judgment and will help to maintain data, which will be used to plan and make projections for current and
future services to meet outcomes. The Crisis Response Care Coordinator will work primarily with the Blanco County
Fire & EMS department and will adhere to their schedule, this position will also require some flexibility in scheduling
due to the nature of responding to crisis calls. Further, this position will be trained in Critical Incident Stress
Management and will provide Critical Incident debriefings to local first responders as needed and requested.
Participates in an atmosphere of respect, interest and enthusiasm in the services provided.
You will get to:
- Attends and participates in weekly/monthly staff meetings as required
- Maintains comprehensive clinical documentation that meets Dept. Of State Health Services standards and Texas Health and Human Services Commission standards
- Properly utilizes Collaborative Documentation and enters within specified timelines
- Comply with HIPPA and PHI to ensure confidentiality of all client information
- Comply with all HCMHDDC and BSB Fire & EMS policies and procedures
Qualifications
You’ll definitely need:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social, behavioral or human services.
- Ability to be credentialed as Qualified Mental Health Professional -Community Services (QMHP-CS)
- Preferred: Previous certification as an EMT and/or Paramedic
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Current Automobile Insurance
- 1 – 3 years of experience in social services
- Experience in crisis assessments and intervention as well as treatment planning and clinical documentation.
- Bilingual: English/Spanish Speaking - Preferred
