The Mental Health Specialist is a highly responsible service position which will work in partnership with and be housed with the Medina County Sheriffs Department Mental Health Unit in the community, in dispatch and/or in the jail to fill gaps in the community. The Mental Health Specialist will perform crisis assessments in the field, jail, and/or other locations for adults and children as mental health calls or referrals are received. The delivery of services will be based on the needs of the community and individuals experiencing a psychiatric emergency. The Mental Health Specialist is responsible for assessing individuals in crisis situations, developing individualized crisis treatment plans including in-patient hospitalization referrals as needed, and providing crisis follow-up contacts. The Mental Health Specialist will also assess specific needs to be able to develop and implement Person Centered Recovery plans that support individuals with mental illness in learning skills to reach their specified service outcomes and to attain/maintain individual recovery. The Mental Health Specialist must provide timely and accurate documentation which supports diagnosis and outcome-based services. This position collaborates with intra- and inter-agency staff to improve services for the community. The Mental Health Specialist exercises extensive independent judgment and will help to maintain data, which will be used to plan and make projections for current and future services to meet outcomes. The Mental Health Specialist will work primarily with the Medina County Mental Health Unit, dispatch, and/or jail to fill gaps in the community, will adhere to their schedule, this position will also require some flexibility in scheduling due to the nature of responding to crisis calls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensures that all individuals on caseload have a current Uniform Assessment (at least 95% of all CANS / ANSAs are completed on time)
Must provide collaborative documentation at least 95% of the time or no later than 24 hours after delivery of service.
Will deliver services using the recommended Evidenced Based Practice recommended by HHSC.
Person Centered Recovery Planning is developed in collaboration with the individual/family served and any other person or provider requested by the individual/family.
Maintain grant data collection.
Work with Medina County Mental Health Deputies in follow up and crisis prevention in the field, within dispatch, and/or within the jail to fill community gaps.

Youll definitely need:
- A bachelors degree from an accredited university in social, behavioral, or human services.
- To have and maintain a valid Texas State Drivers License.
- To have current automobile insurance and the ability to travel when necessary.
- Preferred: 3-5 years of experience working in a mental health setting providing community-based services within the community.
- Experience working within a team setting.
- Bilingual; English/Spanish preferred.
- Live within 30 miles of clinic with reliable transportation
