Position Summary

Responsible for parental engagement and involvement, including monthly parent meetings, parent training sessions, and establishing a site-based Parent Committee. Supports school leaders and identified leads to develop, implement, and sustain researched- based family and community engagement strategies at the school level.

Essential Functions :

  • Supports school leaders and identified leads to develop, implement, and sustain researched- based family and community engagement strategies at the school level.
  • Identifies resources and training opportunities that support the specific engagement needs of diverse school communities.
  • Assists the district in expanding its reach into local communities through active engagement with neighborhood and community-based organizations and external partners.
  • Promotes positive relationships and creates effective partnerships between the district and community in support of student achievement and school improvement.
  • Facilitates communications between school personnel, families, and school partners.
  • Serves as liaison between the Engagement Office, school personnel, families, and partners.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and professional standards.
  • Conduct workshops and presentations for teachers and parents on early warning signs of mental health disorders.
  • Implement curriculums for students on stress management, suicide prevention, substance abuse, or other concerns deemed pertinent to the need of the assigned school site.
  • Conducting universal screenings to promote early identification of health issues.
  • Participate in the school support team and other entities to promote the socio-emotional and academic wellness of students.
  • Complete the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS) every three months as well as other pertinent screening tools and assessments deemed important for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Document all contacts, referrals, and other necessary information.
  • Accept cultural diversity and integrate the family's values and culture into initial conversations.
  • Explain the worker's role, responsibilities, and client's rights, including confidentiality and mandated reporting.
  • Maintain client records that are accurate, and comprehensive and adhere to documentation policies.
  • Complete billing and documentation requirements on a timely basis, preferably within 24 hours.
  • Meet billing expectations that are determined on a yearly basis.
  • Participate in and help facilitate case reviews of clients.
  • Participate in and help facilitate treatment team meetings.
  • Participate in organization-wide and division-wide meetings and committees, departmental meetings, and other meetings / conferences as assigned.
  • Identify and participate in other training or committees that can further professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of the School-Based Family Engagement Specialist
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years' experience developing and facilitating training opportunities for adult learners.
  • Three years' experience in systems change, community organizing, communications or development in a nonprofit, government, or business setting.
  • Experience working with schools, community based or family supporting organizations.
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with volunteer and community partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make effective public presentations.
  • Excellent organization skills and follow-throug
  • Ability to analyze data and systems that can affect parents.
  • Interpersonal skills that emphasize team building.
  • Ability to engage parent / community in school activities.
  • Ability to organize networks of support for programs or initiatives.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-paced environment, with deadlines, and multiple stakeholder viewpoints.
  • Proficiency in using computer applications, such as databases, word processing, email, web-site application.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Bilingual preferred.
