Your Responsibilities
As the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a mental health center provides direct patient care, supports psychiatric and medical treatment, and assists in the management of individuals with mental health and behavioral disorders. The LPN works with Registered Nurses (RNs), nurse practitioners (ARNPs) and therapists in delivering mental health services, ensuring compassionate care and promoting patient well-being. This position will require travel between offices during the work week. Additional duties include:
- Assist with intake assessments, monitor patient health status, and provide nursing support during the psychiatric evaluations.
- Administer prescribed psychiatric medications, provide injections, and educate patients about medication adherence.
- Track vital signs, observe behavioral changes, and report concerns to the healthcare team.
- Assist in handling psychiatric emergencies, de-escalating crises, and ensuring patient and staff safety.
- Engage in patient interactions to provide emotional support, encourage participation in treatment plans, and promote mental wellness.
- Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, medication management, and self-care strategies.
- Maintain accurate patient records and updated treatment plans within the electronic health record (EHR) and ensure compliance with HIPAA and clinic protocols and procedures.
- Work closely with the interdisciplinary team, including but not limited to nurse practitioners (ARNPs), therapists, social workers to coordinate
- Assist with prior authorizations, staging medications, scheduling, referrals, answering phones and maintaining clinic supplies related to patient care.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Need
- High school diploma or equivalent
- LPN licensure in Iowa with good standing pursuant to 655-Chapter 3.
- Experience working with electronic health records (EHRs).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Mandatory Reporter of Child/Dependent Adult Abuse Certification or the ability to obtain within four (4) months of hire and every three (3) years thereafter required.
- CPR certification.
