Key Responsibilities

This Patient Care Collector role involves promoting professionalism, interacting with colleagues in a cooperative environment, and ensuring specimens are obtained according to laboratory guidelines.

• Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment.
• Ensures specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
• Demonstrates proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
• Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
• Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
• Follows proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen transport.
• Responsible for specimen accessioning as assigned.
• Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
• Performs proper drug screen collection and processing as assigned.
• Answers laboratory department phone calls.
• Demonstrates ability to recognize emergent conditions and reacts appropriately.
• Provides phlebotomy services in a professional and patient-centered manner.
• Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.
• Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient.
• Promotes service excellence and growth of the laboratory.
• May work with multiple departments within the laboratory or across the hospital/health system.
• Performs arterial puncture as assigned.
• Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
• Responsible for other duties as assigned.
