What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Management Technician-PRN position at Hillsboro Area Hospital Inc?
A Materials Management Technician monitors and coordinates the tasks necessary to ensure accurate and timely procurement, receiving, distributing, and storing of hospital supplies, equipment, and services needed by the hospital to provide quality patient care. Prepares orders and bid requests. Negotiates with vendors to obtain optimum quality, cost, terms etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
- Deliver supplies to all departments according to par levels and/or requisitions per schedule. Reconcile patient charges and properly document lost charges.
- Post daily requisitions and receiving reports to maintain a current inventory record.
- Place orders in accordance with vender guidelines and establish hospital purchasing policies using contract pricing, when possible, to maintain adequate inventory for Materials Management inventory items.
- Verify pricing, correct any variances, and input price updates to Materials Management system weekly.
- Maintain file of purchase orders, requisitions, catalogs, and price lists
- Actively participates in the evaluation of new equipment and materials.
- Submits repair claims and maintains necessary records.
- Tracks and maintains Material Safety Data Sheets and Product Recalls
- Follow-up on backorders weekly
- Follow-up on outstanding credits monthly
- Complete and reconcile daily and monthly reports.
- Provide shipping and receiving functions.
- Label patient chargeable items with yellow stickers.
- Stock shelves, rotate supplies and monitor expiration dates.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory level for all inventory supplies.
- Participate in annual fiscal year inventory.
- Check and restock supplies on suction machines and IV and Airflow pumps.
- Copies hospital forms for inventory and other departments as needed.
- Assists with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of work and storage areas.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information
- Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
- Applies proper postage to outgoing mail.
- Distributes incoming mail to proper departmental mailbox.
- Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.
- Other duties many be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.

Requirements:EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
- Minimum 1 year experience in hospital purchasing or inventory procedures.
- Minimum 2 years computer experience with proficiency in multiple computer applications
- Works well with numbers
- Required proficiency in general clerical office duties, i.e., computer keyboarding, calculator, with average typing skills.
- Excellent customer services skills
- Must maintain an average accuracy of 85% or above.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.

- Required to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel.
- Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Duties are performed within comfortable climate-controlled surroundings.
- May be exposed to communicable diseases, hypodermic/IV needles, unpleasant sights, odors, and materials.
- The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
- Frequent contact with supply and service vendor sale representatives
- Interacts with department managers and hospital staff regarding purchasing functions.
