What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Account Specialist - Temporary Full Time position at Hillsboro Area Hospital Inc?
The Patient Accounts Representative completes the download of claims to the external billing system. Requests refunds from proper entities. Assists patients with inquiries regarding their accounts and other billing issues. Normally scheduled Monday through Friday.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
- Completes billing edits so that claims will drop from hospital billing system within required timeframes.
- Completes download of claims to the external billing system
- Prepare Medicare Credit Balance Report quarterly.
- Review credit balances, check for multiple accounts before processing and prepare required documentation for requesting refund when applicable.
- Document all work on an account at the time the activity is completed.
- Answers patient/insurance company billing questions in a professional and courteous manner
- Respond to written communication from guarantors or payers on the day it is received.
- Review payer billing and payment information when it is received, update procedures and protocols when necessary.
- Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, and physical related information
- Reports Comp Data timely
- Completes monthly Contract Billing process for local SNF facilities.
- Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.
- Other duties may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.

Requirements:EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Minimum 1 year experience in hospital insurance billing procedures
- Minimum 2 years computer experience with proficiency in multiple computer applications
- Works well with numbers
- Required proficiency in general clerical office duties, i.e., computer keyboarding, calculator, with average typing skills.
- Excellent customer services skills
