Summary of Duties
Position Summary –
Manage the multiple facets of the infection control program to identify and reduce risks of endemic (common cause) and epidemic (special cause) nosocomial infections in patients and health care workers. Acts as a consultant to all departments. Interfaces with the county and state health departments to ensure continuity of care, appropriate follow-up, and control of infection. Partners with OHSU Marquam Hill Infection Prevention team to ensure a system approach to infection prevention policies, processes and workflows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES –
Performed majority of the time:
· Partners effectively with the Infection Prevention & Control Medical Director to manage all aspects of the IPC program.
· Maintains records and logs of incidents related to infections and communicable diseases.
· Reports communicable disease to appropriate county and state health departments.
· Develops and reviews isolation techniques according to accepted standards of practice.
· Reviews and interprets microbiologic reports daily as part of the ongoing data analysis to track incidents of antibiotic resistant organisms.
· Presents infection control information and bloodborne pathogen exposure prevention to new employees in orientation.
· Communicates and consults with management to incorporate infection control principals for each department.
Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:
· In partnership with Infection Prevention & Control Medical Director, completes an annual risk assessment of potential infectious hazards, events, or environmental concerns. Uses results of risk assessment to develop the annual Infection Prevention Plan to be presented at Quality Management Committee.
· Prepares quarterly Infection Control Surveillance reports to be presented at Quality Management Committee.
· Compiles and analyzes HAI data to identify variations in levels of disease and provides recommendations to appropriate committees.
· Manages hand hygiene monitoring and compliance program.
· In partnership with facilities and engineering, completes Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) on all building construction projects and remodels.
· Develops and reviews educational materials on infection control and isolation procedures for presentation to hospital employees. Develops annual safety training.
· Participates in Safety Committee as needed.
Decision making and budget responsibilities (e.g. impact limited to the employee, entire unit or organization-wide):
· Decision making influences every aspect of the Infection Prevention program.
· No direct budget responsibilities but supporting the director in budget planning.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
Required
· Bachelor or Master of Science in Nursing.
· A copy of your highest academic diploma or transcript.

Experience:
Required
· Five (5) years of clinical experience working in a hospital or clinical setting.
Preferred
· Three (3) years of experience working in infection control.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
Required
· Registered Nurse with Oregon State Board of Nursing.
· Infection Control Certification (CIC) required within 2 years of hire.

· Knowledgeable in hospital epidemiologic methodology; principles and statistical methods relevant to infection control.
· Knowledgeable in basic principles of general, clinical, and environmental microbiology in the prevention and control of infection among patients, employees, medical staff members, contract service workers, volunteers, students and visitors within the health care facilities.
· Knowledgeable in the principles used in sterilization, disinfection, and sanitation in health care facilities.
· Knowledgeable in therapeutic and diagnostic measures, equipment, and procedures used in patient care as related to and impacting on infection control.
· Knowledgeable in governmental and voluntary standards, requirements and guidelines for infection control and environmental quality (e.g. OSHA, HIPAA).
· Possesses management and communication skills for the development, implementation, and coordination of an effective program
