Description
Hillsboro School Resource Officers perform uniformed patrol functions as part of a visible and proactive police department, assigned to the Hillsboro R-3 School District. Responsibilities include enforcement of law, investigation and deterrence of criminal activity, traffic control and traffic crash investigation, arresting offenders, public relations events, safety/security education, serving as a resource to local schools, and engaging with community members to provide safety and security at the district. All officers are subject to perform any or all of these assignments as directed by the Chief of Police.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain the Duties of a Police Officer - As a sworn member of the Hillsboro Police Department, maintain all duties related to the enforcement of law and municipal ordinances, investigation and deterrence of criminal activity, and responding to radio calls for service originating from the Hillsboro R-3 Campus.
- Monitor Physical Security and Safety of Campus - As part of the district’s emergency response team, monitor for unsafe practices or potential threats to campus safety; address as necessary through either immediate intervention or planning with district officials.
- Conduct Juvenile Investigations - Work closely with the Jefferson County Juvenile Office to complete criminal and status offense investigations involving juvenile subjects.
- Traffic Control and Direction, Security of Sports Games/Events - Perform traffic control functions within the confines of the district property and maintain a presence at large sporting events on campus.
- Enforce Motor Vehicle Laws - Initiate traffic stops; write tickets or give warnings as deemed necessary; run license plates and perform drivers’ license checks; take and complete necessary reports, including non-fatality motor vehicle accident reports.
- Public Relations and Educational Events - Build relationships with students, faculty, and staff through public relations events on- and off-campus. Some formal or informal educational opportunities for students may be completed.
Minimum Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have the following minimum qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Missouri Class A POST Certification
- Valid Missouri Driver's License
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
**Applicants must have their POST certification by the date of hire. We do not currently offer academy sponsorships.**
Preferred Qualifications
- Current SRO Certification through MOPCA
- Completion of CIT/Youth CIT Certification
- ALICE (or similar) Active Shooter Response Instructor
