What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician - II position at Hillsboro R-III School District?
PRIMARY DUTY
To ensure that District building equipment and systems operate efficiently and that the physical condition of school buildings does not deteriorate by performing preventive maintenance. Ensures that school facilities adhere to District, state and federal safety standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Replaces, repairs and maintains all electrical and lighting fixtures for school District buildings (i.e. light fixtures, switches, circuits, wiring, outlets, etc.).
- Maintains and repairs all plumbing operations in District buildings, such as installation and repair of sinks, toilets, water fountains, faucets, etc.
- Performs general carpentry duties, such as building, installing and repairing bookshelves, cabinets, walls, floors, ceiling tiles, etc.
- Welds/fabricates steel, aluminum, and stainless steel items for District property, such as chairs, signs and other items.
- Assists in maintaining the operation of the heating, air conditioning and boiler equipment, according to season, temperature and demand.
- Installs and repairs building doors and windows, locks and handles.
- Paints District property as needed.
- Repairs and performs maintenance for District landscaping equipment and vehicles, including performing oil changes and other service on tractors, Bobcats and other landscaping equipment.
- Operates various landscaping equipment (i.e. Bobcats, Backhoes) to assist in various landscaping projects (such as transportation and leveling of rock, soil, mulch, concrete and supplies).
- Inspects, maintains and repairs playground equipment and grounds to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Maintains sprinkler systems for District buildings and sports fields.
- Shovels, plows and/or salts walks, driveways, parking areas and steps.
- Maintains all snow removal equipment, including plows and trucks.
- Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating and ventilating equipment
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities.
- Reports and properly documents any damage or misuse of school property to the Director of Building and Grounds and the Principal.
- Posts signs to caution students or faculty of wet floors or services temporarily out of order.
- Verify hours worked on time clock system
MARGINAL DUTIES
- Maintains work order schedule and assignments.
- Assists building custodial personnel as assigned.
- Assists with the training of new custodial or substitute custodial staff.
- Assists with preparation of facilities for school activities.
- Assists with receiving and storage of supplies and equipment.
- Assists with the coordination of the District wide effort to conserve energy.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Orders and inventories parts, supplies and equipment.
- Performs additional tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds and the Principal.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or a minimum of one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must maintain a valid Driver’s License.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
