Mid - $96,449.60

Job Overview

Performs supervisory duties in reviewing, evaluating, and rendering decisions on Natural Resources permit applications, and site evaluations for the preservation of natural resources. Supervisor of natural resource protection review ensures permit applications and site plans are reviewed in compliance with the natural resource related sections of the land development code. The supervisor ensures the natural resource protection specialists appropriately conduct site assessments to determine potential for tree preservation, indications of wetlands, listed plant and wildlife species, and environmentally sensitive areas. The supervisor assists applicants and their representatives (landscape architects, civil engineers, architects, contractors) understand the code requirements.

  • Possession of International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist Certification
  • 4 years of supervisory experience over land development projects
  • Knowledge and experience using accella

  • Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages activities and resources of a large environmental protection and control program.
  • Represents the organization before various boards, commissions, citizen groups, business associates, government agencies, and judicial hearings on matters pertaining to environmental activities.
  • Assists in formulating environmental rules, policies, regulations, and operating instructions.
  • Supervises the work of subordinate staff by scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, providing training and counseling, and evaluating performance.
  • Directs investigations, enforcement actions, and preparation of citations / violations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Job Specifications

  • Knowledge of environmental protection and pollution control issues.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental control and mitigation laws, regulation and policies.
  • Skill in the analysis and resolution of complex environmental issues.
  • Skill in the use of mini / microcomputers.
  • Ability to prepare complex environmental related reports.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to conduct and interpret chemical laboratory test results.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Work is typically performed in an office environment.
  • May require sitting an extended period of time.

  • Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a Natural Science, Physical Science or Engineering; AND
  • Four years of experience in environmental pollution control; including two years of experience at a supervisory level; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education (not less than a high school diploma), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Emergency Management Responsibilities

    In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency / disaster.
