Job Overview
Transportation Route Scheduler and coordinator for door-to-door transportation service. Develops, analyzes and modifies paratransit route schedules, dispatches Paratransit Minibus Operators and vehicles using automated scheduling and dispatching software; ensures adequate and appropriate vehicles and operators are available for service demands; provides daily route performance supervision and monitoring of assigned operators. - Works independently to design, analyze, and modify transportation routes to maximize operator and vehicle resources for route efficiency using computer aided scheduling/dispatching systems, telephones and other communication systems.
- Manages computer data regarding all vehicle routing and scheduling assignments.
- Dispatches operators daily, modifies schedules based upon trip times and destinations to meet service standards and on time performance; coordinates and assigns proper vehicle type to specific routes, based upon capacity and special needs.
- Coordinates transportation service with external customers/ partner agencies to ensure transportation needs are met and service issues, special accommodations and time adjustments are properly addressed.
- Effectively communicates with operators, customers, and other members of the public daily.
- Coordinates efforts in response to urgent situations e.g. vehicle breakdowns, accidents and passenger concerns.
- Participates in emergency evacuation and disaster recovery efforts.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local practices, procedures, ordinances, statutes and regulations governing special needs transportation.
- Knowledge of Hillsborough County roads and streets, traffic flow patterns and other affecting elements.
- Knowledge of providing service for people with disabilities, use of proper etiquette, and special accommodations relating to transportation.
- Knowledge of paratransit scheduling techniques, concepts, and best practices.
- Knowledge of the mission, goals and objectives of their unit.
- Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with others; both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively, independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

- Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other criteria are met.
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND
- One-year work experience as a route scheduler or dispatcher; and one year operating a passenger vehicle for hire or nonprofit organization transporting passengers; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.

- Maintain the ability to pass the background checks required for the position. These background checks may include but are not limited to:
- Criminal History Background Check using Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)
- Level 1 and Level 2 Background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes)
- Child Abuse, Abandonment and Neglect Record Check using the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS)
- Sex Offender and Sexual Predator record check using the list maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)
- Possess the necessary job-related license(s) or certification(s) that may include possession of a Florida Driver License (Class E).
