Work Schedule

40 hours per week | 8am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday

Qualifications

Associates Degree in Psychology or Human Services Field required; Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field preferred.  Experience working in the mental health field is required, prior experience leading or supervising preferred. 

Must be able to establish therapeutic interactions with patients. Knowledge of the basic sciences underlying psychiatric care, psychology, sociology or social work is a plus.  TEAMS training will be required within 90 days of hire.  Recipient Rights Training will be required within 30 days of hire. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The demands of this position are mental and physical. This role works to triage or multi-task a number of tasks at the same time. Must be able to set priorities for self and others. Must be able to hear the spoken word and respond, read, write, and interpret written material. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds, requesting assistance when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the privacy and confidentiality of protected health information at all times, sharing confidential information only with those who have a need to know in order to perform their jobs. Does not discuss patient care or hospital business in public areas (i.e. elevators, hallways, lobby, etc.).
  • Exhibits safety awareness as follows: 1) immediately reports all accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly. 2) Immediately reports and corrects any safety hazards. 3) Uses equipment properly and reports repairs to the appropriate individual.  Does Environmental Rounds each shift looking for any safety issues including contraband.
  • Answers the door and phone on the Unit following the Unit policies ensuring patient confidentiality.
  • Assists in creating an environment that is clean, neat and conducive to patient care in activities of daily living. Assists patients in doing personal laundry and taking care of all their daily ADLs as needed.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and diagnosis of the patient. Documentation reflects the treatment plan and progress of the patient. Documentation is clear and accurate and is complete in all areas.
  • Assists the RN, Psychiatric Technicians and other disciplines in all activities of the unit as needed. 
  • Trains all new technical staff on how to properly perform group session for patients. This includes training new technical staff regarding program of scheduled activities for patient population (may include task completion, daily living skills, self-esteem/confidence, group cohesion, leisure skills, reality orientation, and communication). Make sure patients participate in setting daily goals, self-assessments, and Discharge Safety Plans.
  • Completes work schedules for the BHU Technical staff including updating UKG on a regular basis and finding coverage for holes due to illness calls or staffing challenges, including covering Psychiatric Technician responsibilities/hole when needed.
  • Assist in the hiring and on-boarding process of new technical staff by reviewing applicants and leading the interview process.  Actively participates in the performance evaluation/appraisal of the technical staff.
  • Works with lifeways in assistance with the manager to ensure all appropriate patients are being referred to our facility.
  • Works with insurance companies on utilization review for patients, completing required items including authorizations for admissions, continued stay reviews for current patients, clinical information at discharge, prior authorizations for drug charges, single case agreements for out of network insurance companies, retro reviews when insurance was not known at time of admission, releases to providers for continuing care, and appeals in the event of insurance denial.
  • Acts as liaison with billing department to ensure billing is correct and all billable charges are present; updates the billing drive to assure billing is done in a timely manner. 
  • Assists Manager and Director with needs as it relates to maintaining accreditation and Michigan Mental Health Code and Requirements, including participation in departmental QAPI measures. 
  • Analyzes department and patient needs and orders supplies as required. 
  • Maintains favorable attendance. Reports absences in accordance with the Employee Handbook in the manner prescribed by the Department Manager.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, and other means to keep abreast of latest trends in the Behavioral Health field.
  • Completes mandatory education and employee health screening on a timely basis.
  • Exhibits Service excellence in accordance with Service Excellence Pledge and maintains professional appearance by wearing appropriate attire as determined by departmental guidelines, properly displaying the identification badge while at work, and taking pride in the appearance of the facility by disposing of litter and keeping the work environment clean and uncluttered.
  • Recognizes job relationships and functions effectively within the organizational structure. Is willingly to float to other areas when needed and to flex to other shifts when deemed necessary.
