Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required from an accredited institution
- Associate’s degree from an accredited institution preferred
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments through education and experience
- Must be able to anticipate physician needs to facilitate the flow of clinic
- Must be discreet and tactful so as not to distract medical staff from patient care
- Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to be self-motivated
- BLS certification (available through Hillsdale Hospital)
Responsibilities
- Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures in the Electronic Medical Record as they are being performed or dictated by the physician
- Prepare referral letters as directed by the physician, ensuring that letters are mailed or faxed on a daily basis in a timely manner
- Research contact information for referring physicians, coordinate referrals, prepare operative reports, and make phone calls
- Comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents while keeping patient information confidential
- Collect, organize and catalog data for physician quality reporting system
