Position Summary:
Performs general clerical duties by preparing, compiling and maintaining records in a hospital nursing unit. Will to undergo immunization for communicable diseases. Assist the physician, the shift supervisor and the nursing staff to ensure that proper records are maintained. Attend in-services relevant to their position.

- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Typing abilities.

- Must be well groomed, industrious and show some desire to advance in further knowledge and skills.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Removes previous 3 months chart sheets for medical records department. Replaces new sheets as needed.
- Copies information such as patient temperature, pulses rate and blood pressure from nurses’ records onto the graph charts.
- Writes requisitions for laboratory tests and procedures: X-ray, ELG, Blood examination and Urinalysis.
- Under supervision, recopies current orders every thirty days.
- Copies and computes other data, as directed, and enters on patient’s charts.
- Records diet instructions.
- Compiles chart for new admissions.
- Routes charts when patients are transferred or dismissed, following specified procedures.
- Completes R-10 forms every 4 months for Medicaid.
- Presents charts to physician for signature or verbal and phone order. Notes Orders. Makes out medicine and treatment cards, dietary orders and notifies medicine nurse of discontinued orders.
- Types various records, schedules, and reports and delivers to appropriate office.
- Verifies stock supplies on unit and prepares requisitions to maintain inventories in supply cupboards and desk.
- Answers telephone. Dispatches messages to other departments. Directs families.
- Performs nursing duties as assigned by the shift supervisor.
- Calls new medication orders to the pharmacy.
