Hilltop Residential is seeking a highly motivated entry level Real Estate Accountant who will have responsibility for property level accounting duties, prepare monthly financial reports for a portfolio of multifamily investment properties, and assist with other accounting & finance related duties, as needed. This position reports directly to the Controller and will work very closely with asset/property managers, lenders and other third parties.

- Communicate effectively with Community Directors regarding accounting-related questions and property operations
- Demonstrate the ability to see the big picture beyond the accounting functions of the property and learn/understand property operations.
- Responsible for reviewing and posting entries to the general ledger for assigned properties
- Prepare monthly financial statement analysis according to GAAP with variance reporting
- Record monthly adjusting and accrual entries and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations noting any outstanding items for your manager
- Review the monthly operational reports. Verify balances tie and ensure changes from prior month reports are reasonable (e.g. Current month move-in's or move-out's, rent steps, etc.) before signing-off on Property’s monthly close-out
- Ensure timely payment of mortgages, property taxes, and insurance. Update schedules monthly and record needed journal entries
- Assist in the annual audit and tax return preparation as needed
- Additional duties as assigned by management
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required (or currently taking final classes required for degree completion)
- One year of general accounting experience preferred
- Organized and detail oriented
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel
