Job Type: Full Time, 40 Hours per Week, Year Round

Hilltop School is a nonprofit early education program dedicated to providing a nurturing and enriching environment for young learners. We focus on fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning in a supportive setting. Our center emphasizes early education and school readiness, with teachers developing and implementing weekly lesson plans that showcase each learning activity. These lesson plans are aligned with Maine’s Early Learning and Development Standards, ensuring meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
Job Responsibilities:
- Create and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children ages 2.5-3.5.
- Develop weekly lesson plans that highlight the purpose behind each activity and align with Maine’s Early Learning and Development Standards.
- Foster a safe, engaging, and positive learning environment.
- Establish and maintain strong, communicative relationships with families.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support a team-oriented atmosphere.
- Ensure all classroom activities align with our program’s mission and educational philosophy.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Lead Teacher Requirements:
- Must hold a minimum of a Level 5 on the Maine Roads to Quality Career Lattice.
- One of the following educational backgrounds:
- B.A./B.S. with 12 credits in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a degree in progress.
- A.A./A.S. in ECE or a degree in progress.
- A one-year credit certificate in ECE, social services, or a related field with two years of experience.
- A CDA or Maine state-approved credential or willingness to obtain.
Assistant Teacher Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience as Teaching assistant or paraprofessional preferred.
- Coursework in early childhood education is preferred.
Additional Requirements for All Teaching Staff (or willingness to obtain):
- Member of the Maine Roads to Quality Registry.
- Pediatric and Adult First Aid & CPR certified.
- Successful completion of Maine’s Infant and Toddler Early Learning and Development Standards or Maine’s Early Learning and Development Standards training (based on assigned age group).
- Completion of required Health and Safety Training through Maine Roads to Quality.
- Completion of Maine Mandated Reporter Training.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, stoop, reach, bend, walk, grasp, stretch, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to sit on the floor and get up from a seated position.
- Ability to navigate different terrains in outdoor play areas and actively move around to supervise children.
- Must be able to be outdoors in temperatures of 15 degrees or above, factoring in wind chill.
- Visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision.
- Sufficient hearing ability to detect alarms, phones, pages, and verbal communication.
- Ability to perform light lifting (up to 50 lbs. occasionally, 20 lbs. frequently, or 10 lbs. constantly).
- May be required to sit or stand for long periods.
- Must be able to climb stairs to access classrooms and other areas of the building.
- Must be able to communicate verbally, including using phone and radio equipment.
