Supervise the setting, serving, and cleanup of meal functions and provide all necessary equipment per the catering contract for each function. To coordinate and direct the set up, service, and clean up of all meal functions, and to provide the necessary equipment for meal set up. Introduce yourself to the guest in charge of the function. Open or close in the absence of the Banquet Manager or Assistant Banquet Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervise and coordinate the effective timeliness and execution of all banquet functions from set up to break down. Make sure supplies are ready for servers and bartenders. Assign server stations and duties prior to the start of the event. May also be asked to work as “working supervisor and/or server.”
Supervise set-up crew in the appropriate placement of all tables and A/V equipment. Ensure work area, to include the banquet hallways, are cleaned after each function. Make sure dirty linen is taken immediately to housekeeping for cleaning for the next day’s events.
Make contact with the leader of the function. Maintain contact throughout the event to ensure the contract is being fulfilled and assisting guests with any special requests. In the absence of the manager, responsible for the creation of banquet checks and collection of all funds due.
Organize supplies for next day’s events (e.g., stewarding stock sheets, food and beverage requisitions)
Conduct pre-function meetings to receive instructions and any special needs for the upcoming event. Read and become knowledgeable of the Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and function duty sheet. Attend weekly menu meetings.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform additional duties as requested by management with the percentage of time performing each duty to be solely determined by the Food & Beverage Management based upon the particular requirements of the hotel.
OTHER:
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the hotel from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Team Members with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, Team Members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
Upon employment, all Team Members are required to fully comply with hotel rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities set forth by the Hilton Columbus at Easton, Olshan Properties and Hilton hotels. Team Members who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age to meet the age requirement as set forth by the State and Federal ABC laws.
Must have knowledge of beverage preparation and service of various alcoholic beverages.
Must possess the knowledge and ability to enforce all applicable liquor codes (e.g. Federal, State, City and County Liquor Codes.
Must posses the knowledge and ability to demonstrate various banquet room set ups, including usage of audio-visual equipment.
Must have knowledge of banquet preparations and service etiquette of various banquet events.
Possess strong familiarization of proper food production for banquet events. This should include preparation, storage, and temperature controls.
Possess knowledge of food and beverage financial systems and controls. (e.g. Capital budgets, inventory control, portion control, etc.)
Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
Ability to move throughout the premise and visually inspect condition of equipment and the building. This will involve bending at knees and waist, reaching above the shoulders, stooping and lifting for extended periods of time to complete job requirements.
Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively.
Ability to use computer, calculator, and other equipment using fine motor skills.
Visual ability to read contracts, greet guests, take orders, etc.
Ability to remain calm in stressful or emergency situations and to effectively deal with the internal and external guests, some of whom require patience, tact, and diplomacy to diffuse anger, collect accurate information, and solve guest concerns.
Ability to grasp, lift to shoulder and carry large oval trays that may weigh a minimum of 25 lbs.
Ability to notice small details.
Ability to delegate and motivate Team Members.
Ability to translate technical information or problems into layman's terms.
Knowledge of OSHA standards for chemical use.
Ability to work in conditions which may occasionally be hot, noisy, and wet.
Protect employer’s privacy and data; keep passwords safe.
Ability to use Hotsos to request in house assistance.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Education: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Experience: Two years as banquet server. Should also have banquet set-up knowledge.
Licenses or Certificates: Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications. TIPS Certification.
Must meet all State ABC requirements for serving or pouring alcohol.
Grooming: All Team Members must maintain a neat, clean and well groomed appearance (according to the Olshan Properties Team Member Handbook).
Other: Additional language ability preferred.
