Position Summary
The Hilton Garden Inn Dover is seeking a Banquet Captain to join our team. With 1,600 sq ft of flexible meeting space, we are one of 3 full service hotels in Dover and the perfect location for meetings from 10-100. We offer full service catering and bar services and are committed to making each event memorable for our guests.
Banquet Captains are responsible for all Banquet function activities to include, set up, service and break down. Supervises Banquet functions to ensure that; all personnel follow service standards, all services, menu items and activities specified on the Banquet Event Order are provided in a manner that exceeds the guest's expectations.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Assists GM in selection, training and scheduling of all Banquet personnel.
- Oversees all aspects of assigned banquet function activities, ensuring that all areas are properly set up and ready at the appointed time
- Obtains/reviews Banquet Event Orders, coordinates activities as needed to ensure timely performance of all contracted setup, food preparation and service activities
- Works closely with Chef/Kitchen Manager to ensure that all banquet food preparation and presentation meets or exceeds guest expectations and hotel standards and that food is ready at appointed time
- Monitors all banquet personnel in the performance of their duties
- This position may also oversee the morning Breakfast Servers and ensures adequate scheduling and monitors performance according to standards.
* During slow banquet times, Captain is also scheduled as an AM Breakfast Server for additional hours. Once a new Team Member is onboard, we anticipate a significant increase in business volume and related hours. The more you are willing to cross train, the better your hours.
Required Skills and Experience
- Excellent communication skills – oral and written
- One years experience as a Banquet Captain in a high volume, hotel or free standing restaurant/banquet operation
- Exceptional knowledge and understanding of various banquet and food service techniques and standards
- Certifications: "Certified Food Service Manager", "TIPS" or equivalent such as Serv-Safe and DE ABC Training.
- Effective leadership, management, organizational and communication skills
- Exceptional guest service skills
- Ability to lift and carry food service trays weighting 35 pounds
- Ability to speak, read and write the English language
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend repetitively during entire shift
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
