- Preparation and self-review of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual sales, use, excise, and transient accommodation workpapers and tax returns for multiple states, counties and cities
- Requests necessary information for tax return preparation or special projects
- Analyzes and maintains documentation related to tax-exempt transactions
- Reconciles sales tax liability accounts as part of the monthly indirect tax preparation
- Utilizes multiple state websites to input information and generate tax filings
- Preparation, self-review and posting of journal entries using Oracle
- Maintains a tax calendar with jurisdictions, form numbers and due dates to ensure timely filed returns
- Monitors, researches and interprets state, county and city tax laws, regulations, and pronouncements to ensure that the company is compliant
- Responds to and resolve tax notices and communicate with taxing jurisdictions as necessary
- Assists with research topics and special projects, involving HGV tax and/or outside service providers including audits
- Utilizes various software common to tax
- Constantly strives for process efficiencies
- Completes various other tax projects that are required during the year including account reconciliations, tax refund tracking, and other projects as assigned by the HGV Tax Department leadership
- Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Sales Tax Manager
- Minimum one (1) year of related experience in a corporate or public accounting firm
- General understanding of US GAAP rules
- Solid understanding of indirect tax principles
- Computer proficiency, specifically with MS Excel and MS Word
- Ability to interpret the company's books and records and transactional accounting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to research, understand, and document complex and technical tax matters
- Absolute discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive information
- Independent and self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and prevent potential problems
- Ability to work well under pressure to effectively handle multiple concurrent demands and appropriately prioritize responsibilities
- Experience with Oracle, Alteryx, OneSource Tax Calendar, Power BI, and Bloomberg Tax Research Library
- Experience with the hospitality industry taxation is a plus
- Eligibility: All U.S. hourly Team Members not represented by a labor organization or subject to collective bargaining agreement.
