Department: Front Office Reports to: Guest Services Manager
Position Summary:The primary duties of the Bellperson/Valet are parking and retrieving guest vehicles and accommodating guests during their stay in a pleasant and efficient manner. This role will also assist in transportation as necessary.
Accountabilities: The Bellperson/Van Driver/Valet is responsible for helping guests into and out of the property to the best of his or her ability, and for providing delivery of items to guests on an as needed basis. This role includes parking and retrieving guest vehicles, and transporting guests to and from required destinations as needed.
Qualification Standards
Education & Experience:
- 1 year of experience in a hotel or a related field preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Driver’s License
- Previous customer service experience preferred
Tools & Equipment:
- Computer, copier, scanner, telephone, two way radio
- Keys, guest luggage, bell carts, property vehicle, luggage tags
Work Environment:
- Under variable temperature conditions
- Under variable noise levels
- Indoors / outdoors
- Around chemicals
Physical Requirements:
- Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work long hours, some back to back shifts as needed
- Ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels
- Near Vision – ability to see details at close range

Duties & Functions
Essential:
- Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner
- Maintain regular attendance, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, as defined in the hotel handbook, when working
- Comply at all times with New Castle standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
- Assisting guests with opening and closing vehicle doors.
- Acknowledge and greet guest with appropriate greeting within 25 to 30 seconds of arrival.
- Able to communicate parking procedures to guests/visitors.
- Tag guest vehicle keys with date & tine, registration number, make/model, room number or contact number of guest.
- Provide correct token or receipt of valet parking to the guest.
- Able to effectively park and retrieve guest vehicles without causing damage to the vehicle.
- Monitor and direct personal and commercial vehicle traffic on property, including guest vehicles, taxi cabs, limousines and buses.
- Responsible to maintain the security of vehicles, belongings kept inside the car, and vehicle keys.
- Document and report all vehicle incidents like damages, accidents, theft, missing articles, etc.
- Monitor and maintain safety, security and cleanliness of parking areas, valet and bell stand.
- Re-route traffic when parking facility reached maximum capacity and ensure staff and management is informed.
- Transfer luggage, trunks, and packages to and from rooms, loading areas, vehicles, or transportation terminals, by hand or using baggage carts
- Supply guests or travelers with directions, travel information, and other information such as available services and points of interest
- Receive and mark baggage by completing and attaching claim checks
- Greet incoming guests and escort them to their rooms
- Assist physically challenged travelers and other guests with special needs
- Deliver messages and room service orders, and run errands for guests
- Explain the operation of room features such as locks, ventilation systems, and televisions
- Arrange for shipments of baggage, express mail, and parcels by providing weighing and billing services
- Maintain clean lobbies or entrance areas for travelers or guests
- Transport guests about premises and local areas, or arrange for transportation
- Compute and complete charge slips for services rendered and maintain records
- Pick up and return items for laundry and valet service
- Assist at Front Desk operations as directed by manager/supervisor
- Ensure guest safety and follow all department SOPs on entering and exiting guest rooms

This hotel functions 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. All employees must realize that we schedule as business dictates.
