SUMMARY:
The Food Runner/Expeditor is responsible for the communication between the front of the house and the back of the house. Makes sure dishes move from kitchen to dining room in a coordinated, smooth and timely manner and they examine portioning and garnishing of the completed food order. Food Runners will be responsible for learning all menu items and know what each dish looks like to ensure that they are delivering the proper meal items to the correct guest. Interacting with the restaurant guest, fellow staff members and supervisors in a polite, courteous and hospitable manner to ensure that the guest are having and exemplary dining experience delivers food, describes items, replenishes supplies and acts as a liaison between the wait staff and the kitchen staff by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Primary responsibility is the transportation of food trays to dining room and interaction between guests, servers and kitchen staff regarding all service aspects
- Welcome all customers to the venue professionally and courteously, according to the established venue sequence of service.
- Works with a sense of urgency to anticipate customer needs and other team members when the opportunity arises.
- Relay order to kitchen for preparation
- Quickly clear dirty table settings and prepare table for resetting.
- Promptly and helps to maintain the cleanliness and efficiency of the kitchen
- Ensures all orders leaving the kitchen meet presentation standards and guest requests
- Knows the menu items served and is able to knowledgeably explain the major ingredients and preparation methods for each item
- Informs wait staff of kitchen wait times and any product shortage
- Maintains neat and clean work station during service
- Brings proper food, dishes, and menu items to the correct table and guest in a timely manner.
- Communicates with management, and other service staff to rectify any and all customer needs, comments or incidents.
- Cleans all spills immediately, notifying other staff members and using appropriate signage when necessary
- Performs all opening and closing duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to stand and walk during the entire shift.
- Must be able to work in a fast pace and high-volume environment
- Must be able to maintain excellent customer service skills and attention to detail while maintaining high service standard
- Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds on a tray or service arm
- Able to exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and 10 lbs of force frequently
- Must be physically able to walk without assistance on varied surfaces for an extended period of time.
- Must be organized, follow directions and make quick decisions that are consistent with established company standards.
- Must be able to twist, tow (push or pull), reach, bend, climb, and carry objects as necessary.
- Must be able to work inside and outside at all times of the year as needed, based upon business volumes
- Must be fluent in the English language, both written and oral. Multilingual skills are a plus.
- Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays when business needs dictate.

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in a high volume, service focused environment
- 3 or 6 months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Food Service Sanitation certification
