The part-time staff deliver exceptional administrative support to the department and deliver client services to internal and external clients during the auction season. They liaise with auction and operations departments when necessary to ensure clients’ queries and issues are handled as promptly and efficiently as possible. Finally, they may be asked to perform Client Service and translation duties in areas such as the Front Counter, Registration, Property Collection Desk and the Client Lounge.
Intern must be enrolled in school; this internship is a for-credit opportunity.
Key responsibilities:
- The Asian Works of Art intern is responsible for tagging and checking in property for the department.
- Locate and sometimes handle property in storage
- Answer clients’ inquiries about sales and views and respond to general questions regarding the auction process.
- They may be asked to perform Client Service and translation duties in areas such as the Front Counter, Registration, Property Collection Desk and the Client Lounge.
- Provide superior client service through gracious and attentive demeanor, prompt assistance, and by treating all Hindman’s clients in the most helpful and cordial manner.
- Assist Security in guarding the property on view by keeping an alert and watchful eye on the viewing area.
- Liaise with Client Service staff to obtain condition reports and/or catalogues and supplies for clients.
- Take direction from the Client Service Supervisory team or specialists to perform ad hoc duties including assisting the Client Service team as needed.
- The intern may be asked to assist with telephone bids in Mandarin during auctions.
- Undergraduate or Graduate students major in Art History or Art Management
- Previous work experience in auction houses and galleries preferred
Successful candidate will possess
- Fluency in Mandarin required; other Asian languages preferred
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skill
- Superior client service skills
- Strong follow-up skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, e.g., Word and Excel
- Able to work under pressure and prioritize to meet strict deadlines
