Job Summary:
The Housing Authority Accounting Specialist is a critical member of our finance team, responsible for managing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This role requires a detail-oriented and organized individual who can contribute to the financial integrity of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Transactions:
- Process financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, accurately and in a timely manner.
- Reconcile financial records, bank statements, and accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Budget Support:
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the housing authority's budget.
- Collaborate with budget managers to track and report on budget performance.
- Help identify variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare financial reports, statements, and schedules for management and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements.
- Audit Support:
- Collaborate with auditors during the annual financial audit.
- Provide requested financial information and documentation to auditors in a timely manner.
- Assist in addressing audit findings and implementing recommended improvements.
- Account Reconciliation:
- Reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items and discrepancies promptly.
- Compliance and Regulations:
- Stay informed about federal, state, and local accounting regulations and standards.
- Ensure that all financial transactions and reporting comply with relevant regulations.
- Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain organized and complete financial records and documentation.
- Implement effective record-keeping processes for financial transactions.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
- Previous experience in accounting or finance roles.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Familiarity with public sector accounting and HUD accounting guidelines (preferred).
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
