Hinkle Construction Services (HCS) is a family-owned heavy civil contractor based in Paris, Kentucky. Our services include grading, drainage and concrete construction on highways/bridges, landfills, airports, and site developments. Within our organization, the in-house surveyor has the opportunity to help plan and construct projects that have a lasting impact in the communities in which we live and work. They coordinate with other HCS personnel, customers and third parties to survey and lay out the work necessary to efficiently bring projects to successful completion using state-of-the-art construction technology.
HCS headquarters is located in Paris, Kentucky; however the surveyor position is predominantly a remote work and field-based position; travel to and on-site work at multiple heavy civil construction job sites throughout the state of Kentucky is required. Eligibility: Authorized to work in the United States.
Licenses: Active, valid, Professional Land Surveyor License in Kentucky. Valid, unrestricted Drivers License.
Skills: Basic Computer skills and Plan Reading
Desired Qualifications:
Education: Associate Degree in Surveying.
Compensation & Benefits:
This is a salaried/exempt position; compensation will be competitive with industry standards and final offer will be determined based on work experience and qualifications as outlined above. The in-house surveyors is also eligible for an annual bonus, which is paid based on achievement of annual goals. Position includes use of Company truck for performing job duties. Compensation also includes qualified per diem, and accrual of paid vacation time per company policy, paid holidays, and an excellent benefits package including medical insurance, life insurance, and 401(k) with match.

Responsibilities:
- Work to promote a zero incident safety culture within HCS.
- Conduct work in a professional manner.
- Accurately establishes or verifies project control.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate project specifications are met.
- Performs GPS site calibrations and sets up permanent base station locations.
- Performs ground surface topos.
- Marks clearing limits.
- Checks grades.
- Performs construction layout of pipes, buildings, bridges, culverts, retaining walls, curbs, pavements, etc.
- Installs and certifies right of way monuments.
- Assists with installing digital terrain models on grade control equipment.
- Assists with trouble shooting GPS problems.
- Assists with training project personnel on use of rovers.
- Performs as-built surveys.
- Occasionally performs boundary survey work.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding land use and surveying practices.
- Can read project plans.
- Understands project specifications.
- Well organized.
- Proficient at using GPS equipment and total stations.
- Proficient at using computer technology.
- Good communication skills.
- Proficient planning and scheduling skills.
- Strong leadership qualities.
- Experience in layout of Heavy/Highway construction activities.
- An eye for detail.
- Provides good customer service.
