Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our Audit and Assurance team in our Mesa, AZ office. The successful candidate will focus on audit and attestation services for governmental entities, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in governmental accounting and auditing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct audits of financial statements for governmental entities, including municipalities, school districts, and other public sector organizations.
- Perform attestation engagements, including reviews and compilations, in accordance with applicable standards.
- Evaluate internal controls and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.
- Prepare audit workpapers, documenting findings and conclusions.
- Assist in the preparation of audit reports and presentations for clients.
- Stay current with changes in governmental accounting standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate completion of audit engagements.
- Communicate effectively with clients to address questions and provide guidance on accounting and compliance matters.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification or progress towards obtaining CPA preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in public accounting, with a focus on audit and attestation services.
- Knowledge of governmental accounting standards (GASB) and auditing standards (GAAS).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Travel 6-8 weeks per year
