What are the responsibilities and job description for the Employment Litigation Defense Attorney position at Hire Counsel?
We are working with a boutique, full services law firm in Burr Ridge, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, seeking an experienced (3 – 10 yrs.) Employment Litigation Defense Attorney. The successful candidate will have experience with discrimination claims, EEOC proceedings, wrongful termination claims, and employment contract issues and will handle such matters. The hired attorney will also be expected to advise clients about employment agreements and employment manuals. The attorney will engage in some general litigation and commercial litigation work, in addition to employment litigation work.
The position is available on either a temp to perm or permanent basis. The contract rate for the temp to perm possibility is $60/hr. - $90/ hr., depending upon experience. Salary for the permanent possibility is $125,000 (3 years) - $200,000 (10 years). If the candidate has a portable book of business, the firm is willing to provide a base salary beyond $200,000. The firm’s litigation group works on site (Burr Ridge) most days of the week due to the team nature of the practice. Some flexibility is permitted, if needed for appointments, etc. Information about bonuses and benefits is available from the employer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handle the entire litigation process from its inception through investigation, discovery, trial preparation, and court proceedings (including trial, post-trial, and appellate proceedings).
- Examine video, documentary, and physical evidence.
- Conduct all discovery: take and defend depositions; make and respond to discovery requests.
- Research applicable laws and findings to develop appropriate legal strategies.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop case strategies.
- Draft all necessary and desirable legal documents, e.g., pleadings; motions; briefs; memoranda of law; legal opinion letters; employment manuals; and contracts and agreements (including employment contracts and agreements).
- Prepare detailed case reports and summaries.
- Engage in motion practice.
- Attend and participate in court hearings, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, settlement negotiations, and trials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Three or more (3 ) years employment litigation experience, including employment discrimination litigation experience
- Candidate must be able to work independently with strong attention to detail and the capacity to organize and prioritize.
- Juris Doctor (J.D) degree
- Admission to the Illinois State Bar
- Strong knowledge of employment law
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in legal research and writing
