What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Attorney: For Mass Tort and Similar Cases, Burlingame, California position at Hire Counsel?
We are working with a nationally recognized plaintiffs’ class action litigation firm seeking two (2) associates having one to seven (1-7) years of litigation experience or a federal clerkship to take a stand in its Burlingame office against corporations abusing their market power and harming consumers. Both plaintiffs’ side and defense side litigators, including Big Law refugees, are welcome to apply.
The firm’s flat organizational structure ensures that the attorney hired will draft and argue motions, go to trial, argue appeals, and attend settlement conferences. The successful candidate will be able to work on cases of personal interest, including pro bono matters and will be encouraged to develop a practice and expertise.
Compensation includes a salary of $100,000 to $175,000, depending upon experience; medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid maternity and paternity leave; reimbursement for MCLE, including travel seminars and conferences; and a 401K plan with a discretionary matching policy. The position also carries with it very substantial bonus potential twice annually, based upon attorney contribution and firm profitability. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans case development by studying case information and speaking with the client.
- Initiates and maintains appropriate contact with clients, prepares clients to answer discovery, and keeps clients informed of case status.
- Manages cases by monitoring schedules, expediting requirements, and obtaining and forwarding information.
- Maintains knowledge of local, state, and federal statutes and applicable laws.
- Researches the law, utilizing applicable precedent and employing superb analytical reasoning.
- Consistently exhibits strong writing, research, and legal analysis skills.
- Persuasively writes pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents, including post-trial and appellate motions and briefs.
- Manages all discovery tasks, including issuing and answering discovery.
- Appears in court.
- Conducts and defends depositions, including fact and expert witness depositions; presents plaintiffs for deposition.
- Prepares cases for trial and hearings by organizing evidence and exhibits, taking notes, scheduling witnesses, and engaging in dialogue and discussions.
- Engages in settlement conferences, as appropriate.
- Works well and cordially with other attorneys and the firm’s supporting staff.
