We are seeking an ambitious plant manager possessing strong manufacturing leadership, P&L ownership, and Lean/Six Sigma Continuous Improvement experience. As the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for implementing manufacturing strategies that support strategic initiatives, driving continuous improvement programs utilizing Six Sigma Lean principles, and reinforcing a culture of safety, customer service, and environmental stewardship. The Plant Manager is also responsible for meeting all financial targets and leading the change management processes to incorporate new capital projects and production enhancements.
Our client is a leading supplier of edible seeds, ancient grains, sweet spices, customized grain blends and specialty whole grain flours in the U.S. They are experiencing significant growth as their ingredients are being incorporated into a wide range of baking products to provide distinctive flavor and nutrition. Our client has expertise in helping their customers differentiate their brands with healthy and flavorful grain-based foods.
Essential Job Functions:
- Lead all safety programs and strive to continuously improve plant safety performance.
- Lead continuous Improvement culture and drive implementation of all Continuous Improvement projects utilizing Six Sigma / Lean tools.
- Promote, support and lead a maintenance excellence initiative.
- Ensure food safety through adherence with all quality policies, and GMP programs.
- Develop a high-performance team and culture of collaboration through education, training, coaching and teamwork.
- Responsible for annual operating budget, developing a capital plan and monitoring spending.
- Develop comprehensive productivity roadmap which supports meeting or exceeding the budgeted profit and productivity commitments.
- Engage in local government, business and community associations to help promote the Company’s image.
- Communicate with plant personnel so that goals, expectations and performance against plan are well understood. Encourage hourly participation and involvement to foster teamwork, ownership and employee satisfaction.
Qualifications include:
- BS/BA degree required; Mechanical Engineering, Agriculture, or Technical degree highly preferred.
- 10 years Operations Leadership experience in food processing, grain or flour milling, dry food ingredient, animal feed, or pet food manufacturing.
- Prior Managerial or Supervisory experience is essential.
- Knowledge of labor laws and experience in union operations and/or nonunion operations.
- Demonstrated leadership in driving continuous improvement projects utilizing programs such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, TPM and other Lean manufacturing concepts.
- Strong customer-centric focus. Experience working with Sales to define customer expectations, establish relevant KPIs, and help build/maintain strong relationships.
- Knowledge of governmental regulations such as OSHA, FDA, and food safety agencies such as BRC and SQF.
- Strong business acumen, P&L responsibility – understands trends, financial statements; prepares and manages budgets, and maintains appropriate cost controls.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to develop concise persuasive business arguments.
- Strong technical skills with the ability to assess operations and maintenance, analyze data, and prepare summary reports to chart progress and for senior leadership review.
- Flexibility and adaptability, with the skills to relate well throughout all levels of the company.
Compensation for this position includes an attractive base salary, bonus incentives, full medical/dental benefits, 401-K plan, and paid vacation. Relocation assistance is available for outstanding candidates.
