Job Description:
We are seeking a Grinding Machinist to set up, operate, and maintain grinding machines in the production of precision aerospace fasteners. This role requires a commitment to quality, strict adherence to AS9100 standards, and the ability to troubleshoot and maintain machinery to ensure optimal performance and product integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up grinding machines (e.g., surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, centerless grinders) with proper wheels, fixtures, and tooling according to work instructions, blueprints, and specifications.
- Adjust machine parameters (speed, feed, depth of cut) to produce precision-ground surfaces that meet aerospace standards.
- Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, surface finish analyzers, and thread gauges, to inspect workpieces during the grinding process.
- Troubleshoot machine issues, including wheel wear, material inconsistencies, and mechanical malfunctions.
- Dress and maintain grinding wheels using appropriate tools and techniques, and monitor wheel wear for necessary replacements.
- Manage coolant systems, ensuring proper filtration and concentration.
- Safely load and handle raw materials (fastener blanks or semi-finished parts).
- Complete accurate production records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Grinding Machinist, preferably within the aerospace or fastener industry.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a thorough understanding of grinding processes, tooling, and machine operation.
- Experience using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve grinding issues effectively.
- Commitment to maintaining high quality and safety standards.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with aerospace fastener materials such as titanium, Inconel, and stainless steel.
- Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards.
- Previous experience in the aerospace manufacturing sector.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to manage and maintain production tooling.
