Position Description: The Paralegal will work under the direct supervision of the unit Supervising Attorney and other unit attorneys. The role involves assisting attorneys and taking primary responsibility for creating and maintaining case files. The candidate should be capable of acting with a substantial degree of independence and responsibility in this professional capacity.
Illustrative Tasks:
- Make calls to clients, the County, and the opposite party.
- Respond to queries regarding the program and references.
- Schedule appointments.
- Review court dockets on current cases.
- Conduct background searches and eviction history.
- Research rental property and ownership of landlords.
- Conduct intake interviews.
- Gather information pertinent to client cases, including tax returns, pay stubs, and statements of benefits such as Social Security and SNAP benefits, and update the file accordingly.
- Prepare a basic budget of expenses.
- Prepare intake summaries for files.
- Prepare correspondence.
- Draft legal documents.
- Deliver and file documents as needed.

Salary and Benefits: This exempt, full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from $71,500 to $80,000, commensurate with experience.
