Our client has more than 125 employees, including more than 50 attorneys, who provide free services and resources across a broad range of civil legal issues that impact health, safety, and self-sufficiency. Through education, effective litigation, and collaboration, they work tirelessly to expand access to justice for all, identify needs in our community, and challenge systems, laws, and policies that adversely affect the underserved and marginalized.

Position Summary

We are seeking to hire an Immigration Staff Attorney. Working as a part of an interdisciplinary team, the attorney will provide immigration legal services to survivors of crimes. The attorney will handle a variety of immigration cases, concentrating on humanitarian-based immigration benefits like VAWA, U Visa, and asylum. The caseload will include both affirmative applications, removal defence, and detention cases.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide individual immigration consultations and know-your-rights presentations to immigrant communities.
  • Represent clients before various agencies, including immigration court, ICE, USCIS, and state and federal courts, in applications and advocacy for relief from removal.
  • Engage with allied community organizations, including presenting community education programs;
  • Participate in the preparation of grant and billing reports.

Qualifications

  • Active membership in a State Bar (Does not have to be Florida)
  • The attorney will have a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school,
  • Preferably have 1-3 years of relevant experience in immigration law.
  • Experience serving low-income communities is preferred but not required.
  • The attorney will have demonstrated the capacity to exhibit appropriate sensitivity to and empathy for individuals who have survived traumatic experiences and will be passionate about serving immigrants and vulnerable populations;
  • Ability to work effectively with a large caseload and function professionally within a highly stressful environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently at times and also as an effective part of a team, including other attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • An ability to balance and manage a variety of responsibilities.
  • Strong commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple teams.
  • The ability to speak Spanish or another language in addition to English is a plus.
