Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician
Location: White Plains, NY
Job Type: Full-Time, Evening Shift (Varied Shifts)
Salary Range: $47,548 - $71,323.20 per year
Position Summary
The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment are properly inventoried, decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed, and tracked efficiently. This role requires working independently with minimal supervision while also serving as a resource for training others and assisting Central Processing customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, clean, inspect, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment.
- Operate and troubleshoot sterilization and cleaning equipment.
- Properly handle and store sterile supplies, equipment, and instruments.
- Follow appropriate sterilization methods, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Retrieve, distribute, and track medical and surgical supplies to customers in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Provide training and support to team members as needed..
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certification: Must be certified as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) or be eligible for grandfathering (see below).
- Experience: Previous experience in Central Supply or Operating Room instrument processing preferred.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with medical technology is preferred.
- Grandfathering Clause: Individuals who have worked for at least one cumulative year between January 2011 - January 2015 may qualify for certification exemption.

Physical & Mental Requirements
- Exposure to chemicals used in sterilization (SDS information available).
- Ability to transport heavy objects and remain stationary for at least 60 minutes.
- Must be able to operate department machinery and equipment consistently.
- Requires focus for periods greater than 30 minutes, even in distracting environments.
- Must have normal sight, hearing, and ability to distinguish between dull and sharp instruments.
- Ability to recognize and report malfunctioning equipment.
Patient Populations Served
- Serves all populations, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- May also assist bariatric patients, patients with developmental delays, and those under isolation precautions.

- Compensation is determined based on experience, education, credentials, and internal equity.
