JOB SUMMARY
Assists the Director, EMERGE in implementing EMERGE-HISD, a program to increase the number of HISD students who successfully attend and graduate from selective colleges and universities. Manages a team of EMERGE specialists in initiatives related to college readiness and student college attendance.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages a team of program managers in the district’s EMERGE initiative to promote college readiness and the successful attendance of HISD graduates at selective colleges and universities.
- Develops, implements, and provides ongoing assessment of strategies to identify and support students who can succeed at selective colleges and universities.
- Coordinates the EMERGE program student recruitment for designated areas
- Oversees staff recruitment, selection and retention efforts.
- Collaborates with departments, school leadership, and EMERGE staff to develop plans to support college-bound students.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
- Oversees EMERGE programming at school sites to ensure that selective college acceptance and graduation goals are met.
- Develops training and support for managers, school staff, and other stakeholders, promoting college readiness efforts and departmental best practices.
- Supervises the implementation of EMERGE events, including college visits, New Student Orientation, Senior Celebration, financial aid workshops, etc..
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
5 to 7 years
Professional experience in an academic setting
Experience in college counseling, teaching, or college admissions at an institute of higher education
Personal or professional experience at a selective college or university
Prior experience as a manager at EMERGE, or similar program, with above average results
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Microsoft Office
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

Compiles and organizes data and figures.

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 45 pounds.
